Amsterdam is one of the most visited destinations in Europe and is surely one of the most eclectic and epic cities. With its unique historical culture, world-class museums, exhilarating nightlife, and plenty of heritage, Amsterdam is definitely worth the visit.

Although there are limitless choices when it comes to tourist activities in Amsterdam, I have a great list of places I must see on my first trip to Amsterdam.

VONDELPARK

Did you know that Vondelpark was, until just a couple of years ago, the only public park in the entire world where you could legally smoke cannabis, barbecue with friends, and do other things that are pretty much forbidden elsewhere?

Anyhow, Vondelpark is considered the “lungs of Amsterdam.” It has a relaxing vibe and landscaping, like a beautiful rose garden, that you can only see in the Netherlands. I hope I’ll get lucky and catch an impromptu show at an open air theater.

CANAL TOUR

If you don’t take a canal tour when visiting Amsterdam, it is as if you have not been to Amsterdam at all! Although the vast majority of people are tempted to think about canal tours as a cliche activity, it is the only way to truly explore and enjoy Amsterdam.

I know. Amsterdam’s biking is legendary, but a canal tour is more convenient and requires no physical effort, so I can save my energy for other activities.

RIJKSMUSEUM

Founded back in 1809, Rijksmuseum displays a huge range of antiquities and artwork. There are around seven million art pieces that have been collected over the last hundreds of years.

THE VAN GOGH MUSEUM

How can you resist the largest Vincent Van Gogh paintings collection? Van Gogh is one of the most prized artists ever! I have been told that there are over two hundred of his letters and drawings at this museum.

ROYAL PALACE

I never like to skimp on the quality stuff. I want to experience what it feels like to live in the Royal Palace. The Royal Palace was constructed in the middle of the 17th century and was a Holland King’s official residence, built as a sign of his power and reign. It is a true reflection of beautiful ancient Rome architecture.

HORTUS BOTANICUS AMSTERDAM

I always try to spend as much time as I can in nature. So this is another place that I will definitely visit. Although it used to be a medicinal garden, the Hortus Botanicus now has tropical and exotic flowers as well.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST

Something that really fascinates me is the idea of watching the sunset at Pllek. It is such an amazing place to enjoy in Amsterdam. A glass of good wine paired with the remarkable glistening sunset over the city makes Amsterdam one of the coolest places on Earth.

I hope I will have enough time to grab some pictures of remote surroundings around Amsterdam – I really love their farms, swamps, and breathtaking nature!
